Money & pricing

The Mentor Chair · Money & pricing

I'm booked solid but still broke.

The situation

The schedule is full, the days are long, and the money still isn't there at the end of the month.

From the mentor chair

Being booked doesn't automatically mean you're profitable.

If you're consistently busy but still don't feel like you're making enough money, one of the first places to look is pricing.

Behind the chair, time is money. There are only so many hours you can physically work, so the answer can't always be another client, another late night or another day behind the chair.

Look at each service: what are you charging, how long does it actually take, what does it cost you to perform, and what is it contributing for every booked hour?

But pricing isn't only math.

Experience, skill, education, consistency, consultation, client experience and the result delivered all create value.

Becoming more efficient because you've become more skilled shouldn't automatically make your work worth less.

What I'd do next

Start with the services you perform most often. Enter the actual price, appointment time and direct product cost, then compare what each one contributes per booked hour before deciding the answer is simply working more.
