The Mentor Chair · Career decisions
The situation
There's no manager and no time clock, and the business has quietly taken over the calendar.
From the mentor chair
Working for yourself gives you freedom, but freedom requires discipline.
Without a manager or time clock, you have to create your own structure.
Decide your working days, client hours, communication hours, days off and what you're willing to accommodate outside your schedule.
Structure protects the business from inconsistency and protects you from allowing the business to consume your entire life.
Mentor principle
Freedom requires discipline.
Behind-the-chair tip
Don't confuse controlling your schedule with not having a schedule.
